Should i pay this bill ???

I took out a one year broadband contract with BT however i have now decided to move with about 3 months remaining on the contract

I asked BT if i could move the broadband to my new place however they said i would need to take out another one year contract in order for it to be moved for free. If i didnt take out a year year contract they would charge me around £200 to come install a new bt line at the new place. I dont want a one year contract in case i have to leave the new place in less than a year.

I asked BT if i could cancel the contract and was told that this would be around £160 to do this as there are admin fees

The normal monthly amount i pay BT is about £30

I have now moved to the new place and have broadband access there however i am still paying for the broadband at the old place . Im now beginning to feel very uncomfortable and upset about paying for broadband at a property i dont live in or own. Im also wondering if this may cause difficulties for the new tennants.

My question is , if i cancel the direct debit for the broadband at the old property then what repercussions could this have one me. Im unlikely to use bt broadband ever again as this incident has opened my eyes to the large number of internet providers out there at the moment.

Any other advice on what to do in this situation would be useful

If you're never going to apply for a mortgage or any type of line of credit again then sure don't pay the bill. But if you don't BT will report you to the credit agencies and it will go down as a default. Just pay the three months and cancel the service.

As above debt gets passed to debt recovery and credit record gets trashed for 6 years.

Who have you found to not do a new contract at twelve months minimum ??
