O/S Daily Thread for Saturday 7th May

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning all

I have DGD5 here, she slept over last night and was asleep before 7, I also have my other DD's dogs here, she dropped them off about 7:30 last night, by which time hubby was also in bed and asleep. He is on strong pain killers which are making him feel ill.

DGD and hubby are still asleep, but the dogs needed to go out, so I got up with them.

DGD wants to make cakes today and make some jewellery, after she's gone I will start to pack up books to take to the CS, there are a few specialist books that I will list on Amazon but the bulk will be donated.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Good morning and thank you for starting off Hester.

I've slept like a log, no nightmares or if there were any I don't remember them. I have had nightmares all my life and usually manage to wake myself up if they are bad. Thank you for the link LW the suggested meaning was what I worked out it would probably be.

Today I will do the jobs that I didn't do yesterday, though I managed to get through more than I thought I might. I emptied the ancient downstairs dyson before hoovering and I can't quite believe the muck it picked up after 2 or 3 days. And it is so old that it isn't performing at its best.

I have yet another load of washing to go on the line, not a bright day but promises to be warm.

    JackieO, safe journey xx

    Morning everyone.

Seems to be a good warm day already in Glasgow. The agenda today is wake Mum at 7am. She needs a long warm-up to each day. We are going to Buchanan Galleries :eek:as soon as it opens. Then back to Milngavie for her food shopping after which I'll go home. I was hijacked into going to town although she hardly ever goes and can't manage on the bus anymore - I don't mind too much as I'll plonk myself in a cafe and wait for her. Same for the food shopping. Once we're back I'll head off.

The weekend is forecast to be lovely so I want to spend it at home. It feels as if I've been on the go and away a lot since early April so I need some 'me' time.

Hey ho, good luck packing Hester.

    Happy Saturday everyone.

HH - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that need/want them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, cloudy but bright, warm and dry. Washing will go out on the line shortly.

DH and I up enjoying first peaceful cuppas of the day. Boys both still in their pits.

Dinner last night was again disjointed, boys had chicken and ham kievs, chips and salad. DH and I ate when we got home from the hospital just after 10pm, he had 2 x cheeseburgers and I had toast and pate, neither of us wanted anything big or that too long to prep or cook. Ill person has been moved to a side room and when the consultant did his rounds yesterday said he didn't expect ill person to see the day out. When we walked into the room at the hospital last night DH and myself could really see a big downward turn in ill person's condition since the night before, and we stayed nearly 3 hours last night and their breathing at times is becoming much more laboured and erratic, also they keep coughing every now and then, and it sounds like their lungs are not working/filled with fluid (iykwim). The immediate family were there last night and we sat with them, just giving our support. If there's no change we are going back this morning. I felt when we walked in last night that ill person looked like they were becoming closer to passing away and just how a relation looked when we visited them and they passed away 30 minutes after we left them a few years back. I said to DH last Saturday when we left the hospital after visiting I didn't think ill person was ready to go and that I think they would last another week, that was last Saturday. Hoping now for ill person and the immediate family they pass away quickly and with as little pain as possible. They had increased the pain meds yesterday and given additional, ill person was just sleeping and stirring every so often, but as we left the immediate family members that were still there, we going to ask docs to check when they last had pain relief, as when ill person was coughing they looked like they were in chest pain and they had been in chest pain earlier in the day.

Today will be very fluid, we will just potter along, hoping for a peaceful passing for ill person, and supporting the immediate family.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone,

Dry, bright and sunny here, we are due another warm day.

Thoroughly enjoyed yesterday, we went to Ely and had a good look round. Managed to put together a lovely food hamper for Mum's birthday on Monday, only thing am missing is a wicker basket to put it all in. There was nothing in any of the CS shops or Wilkos, will pop into horsey town today and check out the CS's there. We also have a TKM@xx and a real aladdins cave of a hardware type shop so am hopeful will find something to suit.

We spent the afternoon in the garden, reading and enjoying the sun. Had my shorts on but luckily the whiteness of my legs didnt bring any aircraft down :rotfl: it certainly feels like summer now. So more of the same today, will wash and dry the winter scarves and hats so they can go away, ditto the washable coats.

Have a good day all, take care folks x

The temperature has certainly gone up here, no sunshine forecast but it's still a fine day. Yesterday was lovely and warm with some sun, the washing was dry, I cut the grass and went round with the weed killer - I have a lovely crop of thistles!

Sat out after my burst of activity and read for a while whilst sipping a g&t, lovely.

Need to go out and get some more weed killer today and do some shopping - Gers, DD works in Buchanan Galleries, have fun.

Nothing else planned so will have a chilled day, RR I don't envy you on your own. LW enjoy your new visitor.

Hugs to those in need, have a good weekend and take care. XX

Camelot - I remember about your daughter working at AA shop.

Mum has decided not to go so that means I can zoom in and get the two things she wants and back at her place fairly swiftly. I'm quite relieved whilst still worrying about her lack of energy.

Yesterday (at my home) I did a white wash which dried in just over an hour. It was towels and bath mat so needed a good blow.

Right, socks won't put themselves on.

    Morning :hello:

Scampi is doing his very best to make me feel guilty. He kept bringing his ball to me, putting it on my lap then sitting at my feet, staring at me with sad eyes. I think he was trying to hypnotise me actually. Mid-afternon he gave up trying to play, he probably thinks no-one is ever going to play with him again. He's taken to lying on the chair and trying to hypnotise me from there instead :D He's very frustrated at not being allowed to do anything – you can almost see the energy building up in him but he has no outlet for it - and has had a few loud barking sessions in the garden. I think the neighbours must hate us by now, lol.

I've sown some salad seeds and tidied up the strawberries. The cucumber seeds which didn't germinate have suddenly grown! I assumed the seeds had rotted away but I hadn't got around to emptying the pots, I just put them outside and left them.
I've stacked the pots up neatly, just leaving a few out to catch strawberry runners. There's still chilli plants in the shed at the moment, they'll be outside in a few days so I'll be able to put all the pots and propogators away til next year.

Outside needs a sweep and hose down, weeds have appeared in the flower pots so I'll get rid of them today. If the weather is anything like yesterday, I'll be spending the afternoon in the house with the back curtains shut, keeping cool.

    Morning all.

Was out the door at 8am food shopping. The air con has broke on Hubby's car and he can't stand the heat. He's on about putting the air con units on in the house which means I'll be wrapping up for winter.

Just a few more errands to run and I'm in for the day. Hubby's going to spend the day in the garden if it doesn't get too hot....now where did I put his hat?

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all
