I, personally, do not require more than 3 months in the US.
In my opinion is it is VERY risky to attempt to get a B2, and you, yourself, applied for a B1 which is a different kettle of fish.
Getting one because 'their country of citizenship isn't a member of the VWP' is also not what we're talking about, or any other ineligibility due to issues with the VWP.
I am specifically talking about working age people applying for a B2 visa when they can legally use the VWP.
