Hi I have been with ebico/southern electric for 12 months now can not fault them but...my friend went with EDF at the same time...we have compared bills his are cheaper than mine and for alot more units so EDF are cheaper...just thought I'd give my 2 pennies worth and I for one am going to change to them...:D

I followed your link to EDF and put in my details.
It didn`t allow me to put in my supplier as Ebico so I put in Southern (who`s prices dictate Ebicos).
After entering my annual consumption usage and agreeing to pay by monthly DD the total savings EDF could offer were:
NO SAVINGS AVAILABLE
I should make it clear I`ve been with EBICO for one year and can`t fault them.0 -
Although British Gas seem cheaper on a price comp web isite with the online click2 tarriff - I think there is a good reason why Ebico is still cheaper.
BG have two tier tarriffs, and this is charged per quater usage. the 1st traff being a lot higher.
Ebico have only one tarriff.
When Bg charge you on your 3 monthly usage bill you are always charged the 1st tier tarriff upto e.g 1000KWh .
This means for most low/ave usage your are actualy paying more money over the 12 months.
I think the price comparison web sites assume an anual KWH usage based on and use the tier 1 & ter 2 figures on thw whole anual usage rarther than the quaterly usage.
Not sure if iam right - all quite hard to explain.
I am on Ebico - nice an simple - looked at switching but not worth the assumed savings shown by many price comp web sites.0 -

but then it also said that my gas consumption would cost me £78 for the year......guess they need to work on that...but I am thinking of moving to them....:D

For most of their tariffs BG charge at the higher rate for the first 225kWh per quarter for electricity and 1,143kWh for gas.(called Tier 1) Most companies who don't charge a daily standing charge have a similar structure.
As long as you exceed this consumption each quarter(and most people do), you don't get a misleading figure if you calculate on an annual consumption figure.
However if you are comparing with Ebico you must take into account the extra charges for Tier 1 consumption.0 -
Just to update you all on this...
After much procrastination, pericombobulations, and general dithering-about, I've finally taken the plunge - I have just returned the necessary forms to switch from BG to Ebico - hurray! I can't tell you how utterly GOOD this feels!
I feel like someone who's been wrongly imprisoned for over seven long, cold, dark years, finally emerging into the big, bright, wonderful world, and being able to breathe & smile again.
I'll keep you updated with how the switching process goes. What should I expect? 6 weeks? How many times will BG manage to mess the whole thing up? Ooo, I can't wait to find out...
Many thanks to Ken & all the others for your help/advice - much appreciated

You will get cards from Southern Electric advising of the state of play. Not as good as a tracking number, but you will know what is going on. BG permitting of course.
I like EBICO and since joining them have appreciated also the Southern Electric administration.
Musn't get branded tho. Ever alert.0 -
Quick update: switch going well so far - had an email from Ebico confirming they've received my transfer forms, and say I will hear from Southern Electric shortly.
However... just had a Southern Electric salesman on my doorstop for the past 10 minutes, trying to get me to sign directly with them instead.
I said I'd just signed up with Ebico, but he said he'd never heard of them.
I explained they were administered by Southern Electric, but he refused to believe me. I showed him the cheap prices I'd been quoted, and he seemed extremely baffled, and wandered off. Even to the point of knocking again 30 minutes later, saying he'd just spoken to his boss, and that he'd never heard of Ebico either!
Eventually I showed him all the correspondence I'd got from Ebico, including the T&Cs which are branded Southern Electric. I even offered to ring Ebico, and tell them I have a Southeren Electric salesman on my doorstop who is claiming that his company have never heard of you! He said that wasn't necessary, made his excuses & left. All quite amusing, but also rather frustrating!
How can doorstep salesmen claim to be offering you the best deals, when they aren't even aware of the competition? Even the ones they administer!?
Bonkers :rolleyes:SKIPS STONES FOR FUDGE0 -

To turn the question around.
If they knew every detail about the competition, and knew that competition was better in every way, what would you expect the doorstep salesmen to say?0
