Using a newer version of Norton to renew

I have Norton Internet Security 2013 and the renewal price online is a joke. In previous years I have occasionally bought a new copy in Tesco and just used the product key.
Now I see that the product is just called Norton Security. If I buy this will the product key work ok with older versions of NIS?

I'm not sure, but I've never paid for security software. Is there a reason you don't want to use one of the free antiviruses?0

Mate , do yourself a massive favour and remove this spawn of satan from your machine0

Any sensible comments?
Norton is massively bloated , massively overpriced and massively useless.
It will slow down your machine while it gets its tentacles into every part of your operating system
the Norton protected recycle bin for example.
I want to flip that on you, and ask if you have any sensible questions ,
other than asking someone techie to assist you in any way getting Norton onto your machine.
Doctors take an oath "Do no harm"
In a similar way , anyone who knows anything about IT, would swear the oath "Do no Norton"
That is all0 -
Andypix, sorry you're talking !!!!! like most people in IT. Kaspersky is all those things you say but Norton, in the incarnation I have, isn't intrusive at all.
Mind how you go.0 -
Uninstall Norton Internet Security 2013 and install Norton Security.0

Can I ask why you pump out this *******?
Norton Security from Amazon 1 year sub' £24 for 5 computers
So that is 1.3 pence per day per computer: - over priced - I think not!
Bloated - well I haven noticed it on my computer, it does regular updates and pulse updates multiple times per day all in the background and I simply do not notice it at all.
Yes it was a known memory hog in around 2008 - but you know that was 8 years ago and, well, things have moved on.
Useless you say:
Well why is it then that on here we get endless people with virus problems but I cannot recall many if any saying that they are running Norton.
Can you explain why I've used it for ages but have never had a virus or malware if it is supposedly that useless.
Only yesterday we had a DVD burner recommendation on here - myself on looking at the download for interest Norton immediately blocked it as it contained 'open candy' PUP. Now that does not strike me as a piece of useless software.0 -

It is overpriced because it is not free like many better alternatives.
It is useless because I get many many knackered computers coming my way that are riddled with viruses and there in the background is a crippled Norton installation doing absolutely nothing .
I too have never not once had a virus or malware, and I run the completely free and totally un-noticeable windows defender that comes with W10 or SE on W7
You keep on paying for the shiny UI and cpu hog if you like.
