Advice needed - after HBR

I'm a 1st time buyer so all this is new to me, any advice gratefully received.

We have had a HBR done and this has highlighted some work that needs doing on the house. We obtained some quotes and the cost is going to be around £5000.

The vendors are willing to drop the price by £2,500. We are pretty happy about this BUT it wont help us to actually get the work done on the house. It will only save us a small amount on our mortgage payments each month.

Is there any way that this money could actually come to us and pay for the work? Our solicitor says no and the vendors don't want to get the work done themselves as they want to sell ASAP..

Any advice please peeps?

Believe what your solicitor tells you.

    There's your answer!

The vendors obviously don't have the cash so have reduced the price instead and your mortgage lender will only give you a mortgage based on the actual price you pay.
  • Ok I only asked as my solicitor has been very unhelpful through the whole process.

One of my friends was able to do something that actually saved her cash for a new kitchen

It depends what type of work needs to be done. Is there anything that can wait for later? You can save some money to get things done in the future.
