USA money...prepaid credit card or normal one?

Hi all
we are going to the US in August and are considering options for money. Last time we went in 2012 we took some cash and have prepaid credit cards. This worked well. Just wondering what most people are doing now? Is this still the best option, or are we just as well using debit or normal credit cards?
thanks in advance for any information
