real time balance

Revolut is an online prepaid card so it wouldn't specifically work in loads of places in France.
(Motorway Tolls, unmanned petrol stations - which can really get you if you're running low on petrol in France, some ticket machines, some french supermarkets)
Which is another point no one has mentioned, travel, half the world still does signing for stuff, and online transactions are simply not feasible in a lot of less developed countries.
It is a prepaid debit card. Either was it shouldn't make a difference. They hold my money with barclays and when payment is made, which worked every time, it showed instantly. Meaning the money went from the bank account via all the normal processes a normal debit card would and to the retailer's account and then told me instantly.
I see no reason why this can't be the same with all banks. I think it's most likely something to do with archaic IT infrastructures.0 -
I don't get this "i can't keep up with my banking/balance/transactions" stuff. I don't need real time banking, i have a real time brain which calculates each night what i've spent and what my balance will be. And yes, i do have more than one account.
The banking system will move when it's ready. Like it always has.0 -
Signing makes no difference to being on/offline - it's just less secure.
Less developed countries actually tend to use more cards like Visa Electron / Maestro as their banks prefer online authorisation of all transactions.Which is another point no one has mentioned, travel, half the world still does signing for stuff, and online transactions are simply not feasible in a lot of less developed countries. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Ofcom auction required 98% coverage for one operator for 4g. They obviously managed to pull the wool over their eyes on that one then, careful use of statistics can come up with any answer you want to give !
Every house is getting a smart meter which will use mobile to send data - hows that happening? It is not, there are still many parts of the country with no mobile signal at all from any provider, these will probably still get smart meters because it will tick a box but will just have to be read as usual. And don't use the "link to customer's internet router" one as many of these places do not even get internet, the "high speed revolution" the government keep going on about missed them out ! Just like the digital radio revolution, a total farce.
It can send the small amount of data it would need to via 2g/3g/4g it doesn't need to download a feature length film - the size of data it would send would be tiny - which is why some terminals run on dial up still. Still no use without some form of mobile signal.0 -

Never thought about it that way before but it does make sense !
I know Spain is big on Visa Electrons - but again a lot of places in Spain and France simply do not work with online based cards.
I've heard of friends being stranded at fully automated petrol stations before, or the motorway tolls spitting their online cards out. Some big department stores in Spain can be funny with online cards as well. Thanks

Don't get me wrong, I have one and I think they're great !
But just be aware it is a PREPAID card, regardless of whether they stick a debit after it, there will be places it simply will not work.
The list is endless, but basically anywhere an online card doesn't work, the Revolut won't work, luckily they are a small minority of places but they exist and crop up at the most inconvenient of times.
Always best if possible to have a credit card handy just in case (as they are always offline). Thanks
