H & M Not on Credit File

Hi Everyone,

A newbie poster here :)

I currently have a monthly payment account with H & M which I've noticed isn't showing up on any of my credit reports. Does anyone else have an account with H & M and noticed this?

I'm wondering if this is because they are based in Sweden?

Hi there and welcome to MSE,

It is up to the creditor to report accurate information to the credit reference agencies. If you are regularly using the card then it should be on your file. You could write to H & M and ask them why this may not be appearing and ask them to ensure they report the data from now on. If they refuse then you could complain and escalate the matter to the Information Commissioner (but I very much doubt it will come to that).

When you say reference agencies, I take it you mean Experian, Equifax and Call credit ?

I'm not sure that the ICO would help here.

I may be mistaken but I don't believe there is any legal requirement for a creditor to report account conduct (or the existence of an account) to a credit reference agency, only a requirement for the data to be accurate if they do.

They obviously have a requirement for the data they hold to be accurate too, but that's not relevant to this discussion.
