Will Microsoft start charging everybody a yearly subscription fee in order to keep providing Windows 10 updates then?

If any policy change is planned, it could be years away anyway. I'll think about what to do when/if it happens. In the meantime I've upgraded to W.10 , kept up with all updates and it is running without problems.

Media centre is something slightly different, its primary goal is to support HTPCs and most of its functionality is to connect to TV tuners (act as DVR) and have a media guide, its also more about managing videos and music etc.

The problem HTPCs never really caught on, too big too expensive, everyone watched Netflix anyway and 99% of its functionality can be done by pretty much every smart TV. Thus media centre was justifiably killed by MS.

    Excellent:
Perhaps after that date Microsh*t will stop dumping all this endless nagware on win 7 users to upgrade every month with new KB's or re-issues of old KB which you have previously blocked which now appear again.

It looks like you may be in luck:

Perhaps I would upgrade if they didn't remove features in every upgrade.

Windows Media Center works fine on Windows 7. Why would I upgrade and lose that?

you could move on and use plex/kodi etc

... I have always used VLC media player, not found anything yet it wont play.

VLC is not that good with 4k, also VLC is not that good with media which has multiple soundtracks embedded.

Oh - it gets even better
MS have decided that the cut off will not apply to those having "accessibility needs".
This will be good fun to watch
Prepare for pop-ups to appear on your win7/8 computer demanding you confirm or otherwise whether or not you have a accessibility needing disability to determine whether or not MS will still nag you to upgrade.
    https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/accessibility/2016/05/06/accessibility-and-the-windows-10-free-upgrade/

I suspect in reality that MS has belatedly realised that most of the special needs whatever software and other stuff is not yet Win10 compatible.
Then again it might be just MS desperately finding some lame excuse to let some special interest sector still have it for 'free' and maybe next month they will be saying it will be still free to students or something.
