EDF - System Error, con or me?
I received an estimated electricity bill today for £192. That's about normal. I went online to send in the real numbers, and was pleased to see that the estimated meter reading on the numbers on my online account was only 6 units out. Pretty good estimate. Here's where things got very interesting. On the EDF website, they stated that for an Estimated Meter Reading that reads 16565, the amount due would be £192. Great, so my own Actual Meter Reading was 16571, which is 6 units more than their estimate for £192. I clicked the SEND button with the actual reading, which was only 6 units more than their costed estimate, and a new bill loaded into the browser stating that for the updated reading, which is only 6 units more, I now owe EDF a new sum of £242. If anyone could logically explain to me how 6 units costs £50, I'd be very grateful. I'd also like to know if anyone else has had this same 'trick' happen to them. I'm now refusing to pay the bill until EDF can explain to me why this has happened.

If you have received a bill that you do not understand, it would be useful if you could post that bill so someone could explain it to you.0 -
As Footyguy has stated, unless we can see the two different bills with the charges on both statements, we could only guess at the different reasons for the difference in the balance.
There may be a difference in the tariffs, extra daily standing charges, discounts etc0 -
The estimated "bill" you received probably was what they call an RPA letter. It's a prompt for you to read the meter. They reach this figure by taking your estimated annual spend and dividing it into 4, so at this time of year it will be less than what your actual bill will be because the RPA figure takes into account your low summer usage whereas you will have been using more energy Feb-May rather than May-Aug.
The reading given on the letter doesn't relate to the RPA figure, it's just there so you can compare whether you're using about what they think you should have.Make £10 per day-
June: £100/£3000 -
EDF generate bills 24-48h after you have provided a reading, not straight away.
If you log in to your account and go to the bill section there will be a PDF available with the fill details. This is what you need to post if you dont understand it.0
