How is telling me that I don't know what I'm doing, I should see a doctor (already under 4 of them, which I put earlier), and I should get an app trying to help?

Oh and also how is telling me to quit my gym to walk more helping? It isn't my fault the troll didn't read the thread and came out with a man cow dung response; I'm not being told by an internet randomer who cannot be bothered reading a couple of posts what to do.

I also don't care if it is harsh. Life is harsh. Deal with it.

I too think it was harsh! People are *trying* to help, if the advice isn't relevant just ignore it and carry on to read what is?! Maybe they didn't know gym memberships can be frozen and so thought it's maybe best to cancel while you're not using it? I too thought not being able to walk so far isn't normal, and I too didn't read where you explained why (only that you'd had surgery but that doesn't say why you can't or what surgery etc), sometimes people are busy and just read the first post not all posts.

If it's due to a medical issue, then really you need to be asking these specialists what you can do, not us as we can't suggest anything when we don't know the ins and outs of it

I asked for help and now I'm being attacked by some troll who couldn't be bothered reading. You're not busy enough to post 2 full paragraphs, but too busy to read a short post? Are you on crack?

Ignore them :) It's probably hard at the moment to be patient with people who don't read, and so provide advice out of context. This stage of recovery is a very, very frustrating one.

You're doing the right things, but it is hard to accept that recovery takes time. If you can take things slowly it will be faster in the end. I gave myself so many setbacks by rushing to try to do things before I was ready. But at least it's not as boring as bed rest!

Hopefully the weather over the summer will be kind so you can at least spend time outside. If your concentration is improving, then make the most of the need to rest and read all the books you've always said you'll read when you have time (I thought this would be easy to do - turns out pain, anaesthetic and medication all have an impact on how much and what you can read).

Do you have a comfortable chair for outside? I found was given a lafuma recliner when I needed to spend a lot of time resting, and it was brilliant. Incredibly comfortable, adjustable, and with a few blankets for when the clouds came over meant I could rest outside in the fresh air rather than being shut up staring at the four walls indoors.

Drinking lots of water helps both to get the residue of drugs/anaesthetic out of the system and also means you have to get up to pee regularly... so helps keep you moving ;)

Talk to your physio about pilates - they may well recommend someone, and also suggest what would be helpful and what to avoid. It might also be worth asking them whether massage would be beneficial as it can help with recovery in some circumstances.

Find things to distract you and stop you getting bored. It's tough, but you're improving and will continue to do so. Just don't overdo it!

    Hello DomRavioli,
    Wow, where to start.
I could have just ignored your "post" but here goes.
I did read the whole thread before posting. I have now re read it and I am completely at a loss as to why you would treat my encouragement and advise with such a reply.
If YOU read your posts you will see that much of the information you thought you had provided is in your head and not on the page.
As another poster said who felt your reply to me was harsh, you should be getting advise from your four doctors and not asking such questions on here.
I am very sad to hear of your problems and even sadder that you are so angry at the world.

Yoga is also very good for strengthening and will help with your walking. I found when I increased my walking that my back would ache because my core was weak, the yoga fixed that.

This would be a good place to start if you have no yoga experience - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7AYKMP6rOE. I did the "30 days of Yoga" playlist by the same person, it starts in a fairly basic fashion then increases in complexity as it goes. You can always repeat days. You may have to modify some parts if you have back issues, or goto a Yoga class where you can speak to the teacher and have tailored advice.

Seriously?? Calling someone whose trying to help a 'whiny idiot'?
No-one is attacking you and there was nothing at all Troll-like about gfplux's reply.

Thank you so much - it is so nice to find someone who understands just how frustrating it is! I'm working from home so not too bad (although my temper is just so short with it - I'm a medical secretary) and the info is great. I never knew the physio knew about pilates, I'm going Tuesday so will mention it.

Thank you again, some times I just feel like crying because of it and it is literally a weight off when someone understands.

Go away. Your post adds nothing of value unlike some very lovely posters on this board who have kindly responded to my post. You're on my block list now.

I know exactly how you feel.

And exactly why you are responding to the other posts as you are. You need to vent, so I'm not going to say that you should ignore them. They are serving a purpose :) But they don't understand your situation which is why they don't understand your reaction.

Thankfully for most people they don't have to go through this, so don't understand how frustrating it is not being able to concentrate, read more than a page, watch anything longer than Peppa Pig (6 minutes for those who don't know), stand long enough to prepare a meal, sit long enough to eat a meal, lie down long enough to sleep.

Work must be tough. I know I found customer-facing work really tough. Luckily only about 30% of my work was customer-facing and my boss was OK with me having breaks from it when things were hardest. But people often find it hard to believe that recovery is tougher than the problem or the surgery.

Keep focused, have a plan and don't try to over-achieve. It really is worth taking it slowly. I'm now fitter, healthier and happier than at any time in my life. Chronic pain causes so many other issues. If you manage your recovery well, you'll be pain free and mobile. Don't rush, or you'll end up with setbacks.

Good luck. Come back and rant/cry/moan as much as you like. But also celebrate your achievements - let us know when your step average hits 6000, when you can walk far enough to stop off for a coffee with friends (distraction works wonders), when you can walk to a pilates or yoga class, and when you get back to the gym.

I've been very slack recently (I have had an infestation of builders, but they're gone now). I was walking 12k steps a day, doing 2 pilates and 2 dance classes a week, running 3 times a week and swimming once a week. You've made me realise what I have to lose - so from tomorrow I'm going to get my step count up and next week I need to start running again. Thankfully I've continued with pilates and dance when work permits.

I had a hospital appointment yesterday. They're really happy with me. It's two year since my last round of treatment, and I get another year until the next one. I have to make the most of it. And be fit enough that the next lot of treatment isn't a set back. And on the plus side, it's a whole year till I have to to back to hospital!
