car insurance renewal with unexpected 'at fault' incident

I've just received my car insurance renewal and their is a claim from the end of 2015 on it which is listed as 'at fault'. This was a clash of wing mirrors which I did NOT accept responsibility for when reporting it to my insurer but made no attempt to claim on my own behalf as the repair cost was minimal (£30 for a cowling and some new mirror glass). I subsequently heard nothing more from my insurer until this renewal notice and they appear to have accepted fault on my behalf and paid for the 3rd parties claim (£500!). Shouldn't they have contacted me to say that the claim was being contested and is there anything I can do about it now as it has ruined 10 years of no claims bonus and driven up my premium? Thanks.

Did they give you a break down of the costs which made up the £500 claim?
What was the last correspondence you had with them regarding the disputed liability?
Could you describe in detail the accident which led to wing mirrors clipping? All your base are belong to us.0
