"Locally" is irrelevant. For a £2k difference, it would be unreasonable not to travel.
Do you work in the insurance business? I haven't seen you make one post supporting the consumers position.
Again a consumer will think local is very relevant if the insurer thinks it's not they should state this in the policy instead of hiding behind intricate policies/t&c's

Considering the fact the customer doesn't have a car local is relevant.
It doesn't need to be within 5 mile, but anything over 100 miles is definitely too far to be expected to travel.
Most insurance companies will only give a courtesy car for a week, so its not as if you have months to source and buy a car, you have days, so don't have the time to spend 2 days travelling to look at cars.

Car prices vary regionally, I live in NI, so do you think it is reasonable to go to England and buy a car? (And you need to factor in the cost of a ferry, fuel etc - for a £3k car it is generally not worth the saving)
Or should someone from the Scottish Highlands be expected to go to Birmingham to buy a car?

You could also finish up travelling hundreds of miles at a large expense and the car being rubbish when you get there.

happened to me loads of times, people outright lying on the phone, yes only minor age related marks travel 150 miles to find the photos they sent you were either photo shopped or years old and you could put fingers through the rust.

It did occur to me if you are in a rush and can afford it just go and buy a replacement and sue the insurers for the difference, should be a comparatively easy lawsuit as long as you don't purchase a car with radical differences.
