Faulty gas meter
Hi everybody.
I am new and I hope someone will answer me, i'm very worried.
I moved to my first flat two months ago. The landlord gave BG the last meter reading, which was 04725.
Being new to renting a flat I didn't think to doublecheck, and I just checked again today. The meter has gone up to 14652. That must be very wrong right? I was worried that there could be a leak, so i switch off the boiler (which is new btw) and didn't use gas today, and in 11 hours has gone to 14653. It this normal?
I'm really worried and don't really understand anything about this kind of things.
I will call BG in the morning but i'd appreciate some help anyway! ;(

Have you actually had a bill yet ? If so what are the readings on it ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

My first question would be 'have you read the same meter as your landlord'?0

Your bill should give you the meter number so you will be able to check that at least you are reading the correct one, landlords are terrible for that.0 -
I cannot check my bill because if "unfortunately unavailable" and i don't have a paper one.
Anyway i rang BG and they'll have somebody coming on monday to check the meter.
I guess there is not much more i can do!0 -
Be in on Monday and make sure its the right meter by turning off the consumer unit or switchfuse it is connected to and checking that the supply to your property goes off.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
