Credit Cards for someone with a recent default?

Hi,
Found out last week that I owed money to Lowell group from an orange contract for around £26. I had orange confirm it was real as I had no contact from them (I moved to a new place but had closed my contract over the phone with no balance remaining).
I've now paid Lowell but of course have a default that lasted for around 1 year on my credit report. I've had a look at the Aqua credit cards in an attempt to improve my credit but noticed your defaults have to be at least one year old. Is their any credit cards I could apply for in an attempt to improve my credit?
Many Thanks,
Oli

Vanquis tend to accept anyone with a pulse, and that's not always essential.
Otherwise, you could try your own bank.0 -
I don't know if they still do them but Capital One used to do cards where you gave them a deposit of say £250 and they give you a card with that limit - then depending on how you run the account gradually increase the limit and refund the deposit.0

According to Money Saving Expert the Vanquis cards have the same policy of having no defaults for at least a year. Would they overlook this as everything else is fine with my credit history.
I'll also plan an appointment with my bank to see if they can offer anything.0 -
Try LUMA they are part of Capital One...minimum limit is £250 so good chance of being accepted.0

The default was for a very small amount, involved a mobile phone account and is now settled. If everything else is fine and the credit report shows no sign of financial stress either now or at the time of the default, the overall effect may well be less severe than you imagine.
It will depend on your overall financial situation etc0 -

Looks like you were right. I had Lowell Group confirm today that they received payment and closed the account. I went for the Barclay's Card Initial and got accepted instantly. I can now start building up my credit.
Many Thanks All,
