Does all travel insurance now require using public (EHIC) clinics/hospitals in Europe

Just had the renewal letter come through for our annual worldwide travel insurance (through LV premier policy, MSE top pick) and noticed that they now require you to use public medical facilities where ever possible with an EHIC card in Europe.


I'm sure we've had policies in the past where this was not the case, just wondering if other insurers still allow treatment at private clinics. I know in lots of European resorts the clinics are private so unsure how easy it would be to find public ones nearby if needed.

I have just had the renewal of my annual policy, it says if you have an EHIC they will not deduct the excess on any claim, which implies use of public hospital facilities where available. The problem is on some Greek Islands there may be no choice and I would rather get good treatment and lose the £50 excess than take a risk. In some countries of course, Spain being a good example, the public hospitals are excellent
