Whats the best patio cleaner for great results

  • What are you trying to clean off?

A half decent pressure washer will get rid of general grim fairly easily (I just did mine) and quickly.

Moss and algae might need a specialist cleaner.

As I recently discovered, getting rid of black spots (lichen), will require a lot more than pressure washing (see my own thread) - some say bleach, but you can get expensive black spot remover too (not tried it).

One of the best patio cleaners with no effort is Wet & Forget. One of the cheapest with similar results is Patio Magic.
Both these cleaners do not work straight away. You spray them on & leave it to work, it might take a few months to see any result. It will last approx 1yr after application.

    Moneysaver.

For patio slabs, footpaths and decking I mix some washing up liquid and Milton fluid in hot water, pour it on the surface and give a scrub with a stiff yard brush, leave for a while, scrub again, then rinse down with a garden hose. Lovely job. Does away with the algae nicely and doesn't need doing again for a few months. Quick and cheap :D

I just use pound shop bleach, ok, not exactly eco friendly and not to be used if it runs off towards the garden but it works for me on the drive and veranda.

Does the lot for £2, :money::money:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

What exactly patio do you have? wood or slabs? Even if you have a stone the best way to use jetwash and THEN use some water seal like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S62eOPfk9cQ . It creates perfect waterproof effect and you have to clean patio very rarely...
If you have a wood patio - it doesn't matter how well or bad you clean it - jet wash or brush manually! It is important to treat it and kill woodworm and moss inside by using some specific woodcare

Its possible to pressure wash block paving without forcing all the sand out if you're careful. Its also easy enough to re-sand afterwards. Its still by far the quickest way, even with a home pressure washer.

How do I resand. Do I just brush the sand over the cobbles?
  • It has to be kiln dried sand but yes you just brush it over with a yard broom to fill the gaps and sweep away the excess. Do it when it's completely dry.
