I got my renewal from Admiral car insurance a couple of weeks ago. As advised I went on confused.com first for quotes. Came off that after 30 minutes of entering details and went on gocompare. Before I had even entered my name and within 5 minutes of coming off the confused site I had a phone call from one of their reps trying to sell me insurance.
Not one of these comparison sites allow you to enter data without a phone number. I gave up and just let Admiral renew automatically.
The possible savings in continuing were less than £40. Put that against the couple of hours I would have to spend entering the same data into web sites and the probability of getting pester phone calls and the comparison sites are not worth the bother.
I may try again next year but I'll use a throwaway sim card. I could give a fake phone number but I may want to take up an offer. Giving false information may invalidate the offer.

I used to put in a fake number until I spotted the box to tick to stop the top 3 calling me0

I use these comparison sites all the time for car and home insurance, taking care to always tick (or untick) the 'no phone calls' box. I have never received an unsolicited call as a result of this.
Admiral's renewal charge is very flexible if you ring them up and tell them you're cancelling and going elsewhere - for some reason they always seem to be able to find some way of reducing it.Optimists see a glass half full
