Building Societies to Banks - any more windfalls likely?

Except looking for the next society to go out of 59 [and losing interest while doing it] is like looking for the proverbial needle in the haystack :(.

Perhaps it's better to bank on [some great current] top interest rates rather than live in optimistic hope of whimsical windfalls?

    A bird in the hand.......

prior to portman 200.00 gross min payout, previous two merger payouts ( universal and lambeth ) were minimum 400.00 gross payouts, so its not all doom and gloom.

even a 100.00 payout for odd 1.00 per year interest losses is still a good speculative result.

on another forum i saw someone moaning that he only received 20p interest from portman for "a year", what he didnt realise was 20p interest was gross for 2 years. :rotfl:

I opened quite a few too David and did well out of it i.e. A & L, Northern Rock (shame the share price has dropped), Bristol and West (pref shares),. also got some Halifax pref shares, Bristol & West etc (can't remember them all) and I am still hanging on for Yorkshire, Leeds and Nationwide but they say there is no chance for the last one.
