BT Email Warning

A warning to anyone thinking of moving away from BT.
I have recently cancelled my telephone & broadband packages with BT
I was told that my email accounts would be kept live for 60 days after which I would either lose them or have to pay to use their premium email service (at the time, £1.60 per month but now rising to £5 per month)
TWO DAYS after transferring to my new provider, the email accounts have been irretrievably deleted! They cannot even be reinstated if I subscribed to the premium service.
Technical Support cannot (or will not) help even though the addresses could not possibly have been reassigned. And, I believe owning to having to give a month's notice, I think I'm still paying for this non-service.
Luckily I had already begun the process of setting up new accounts & informing people and/or transferring the info where necessary.
So again, be warned. If you are going to leave them, get all your replacements up & running first.

Sorry for you experience, that is terrible ..
BT are an absolute nightmare to deal with , I have to do so on a daily basis in my job and it is painful to the extreme ..
My Mother left BT in similar circumstances to you, and her email account is still going strong 3 years later .. She doesn't pay for this service, and when I asked BT about it, they said that email accounts are only usually removed if they haven't been logged into in 60 days ..
I wonder why they have done you like this ?

I'm really surprised anyone still uses either email or hosting provided by their ISP - it's just a way to achieve a cost of exit. Obvious benefit to the company but why would you ever use it ?
Just get yourself a free email account and chalk this up to experience ...
Don't get me wrong, BT treated you like !!!!!, as is their wont, and that's rubbish. What it isn't, however, is in any way surprising ...Hello There. :beer:0 -
Why have a btinternet email when they are better services free

As SB stated above, I've been with BT for years & it was easier to use their own system. I've now gone to Gmail & linked it to a personal domain name.
Tech Support would not tell me why it had happened & would not give me anyone more senior to contact saying that they were " the last resort".
It could have been much worse as I had already informed most of the "important" people (banks & business stuff) but there have been occasions where I have informed a company & they have written to the old BT address for confirmation of the change of address. Any more of these would be a nightmare.
And I still don't see why they can't just reinstate the account for the promised amount of time. I may have missed any emails already sent but it would still help in the scenario above.0 -
To add insult to injury, I just received an email from BT (to my new address) telling me that my latest bill is available to view online.
When I've logged in to my account, I'm getting this message.
This account has been locked for online billing. Please contact our online care team for further help.
So it appears that they are now intending to take a unspecified sum of money for a service that they aren't providing.........0
