Giving Notice On Flat We're Renting (Pro rata rent charge)

Hi all,
Just wanted to check something. My tenancy started on 6th November for a fixed term of 6 months. I gave notice a short while ago and gave them a move out date of 26th May. By my counting that is 20 days. Is that correct? My logic is if I pay for a months rent it would go from the 6th to the 6th of the next month (inclusive) or is it from the 6th to the 5th of the next month?
Basically I don't want to pay for 21 days rent if I need only pay for 20.
Thanks in advance.

Are you in England or Wales? If so your notice has to align with your tenancy periods (unless you can agree to pro rate rent with your landlord).
So if your tenancy started 6th November and you pay your rent monthly then your tenancy periods run from 6th to 5th. (Not 6th to 6th as that would be 1 month + 1 day).
Your fixed term ends 5th May and if you moved out on or before then you don't need to give any notice. As you will still be in the property come 6th May you will start a new periodic tenancy. At a minimum you are due to pay rent to, and including, 5th June.
Edit: See Ending/renewing an AST for further information.0 -
It's agreed I can move out on the 26th. I'm in England. So to confirm it would be 21 days?0

You obviously didn't listen.
It's either a full months rent, by law
OR its whatever you have agreed with the Landlord.
- Also is it agreed the tenancy will end on the 26th, as you say its agreed you'd move out then, but moving out does not end a tenancy0 -
Your landlord might have agreed to you moving out 26th May but has he said anything about pro rata rent?0

I'm not interested in arguing the law.
It has been agreed that i am moving out on the 26th May. Again, THIS HAS BEEN AGREED. This is also when the tenancy will end.
So by my understanding (now) rent will be payable on 21 days and not 20 as I originally thought.0 -
I already have a daily rent price. I just needed to know how many days rent I would need to pay.0

How do you expect us to know what you agreed with your landlord?
You pay whatever you agreed. 1 day, 11 days how do we know?! - there is no standard.
It's EIETHER
1 month
OR
whatever you agreed.0 -
As you have been lucky enough to have a LL agree to less than the minimum notice period, I don't think I'd bother quibbling over a day's rent in case they start insisting on what they can legally ask for.
One day's rent can't be an enormous sum anyway. Some things are worth squabbling over, some just aren't.
You say you have been given your daily rent rate, ask them what they are expecting.
And count your lucky stars you have been allowed to do this.0 -
The funny thing is that in the 2 hours and 20 minutes that this thread has been active OP has had more than enough time to take his calendar and/or a piece of paper and to answer his own question.0

Or of course, he could just ask his landlord for the pro-rata rent outstanding in writing...0
