A horrible situation and my lost boy

My husband and I went on holiday and left our two year old boy with his day care sitters. They have had him for a year on the three days I work.
Day two of our holiday and I see 10 missed calls on my mobile from her. It seems he was off lead near a major road and was hit by a motorbike. They then didnt take him to the nearest vets, nor his vet but another one I have never heard of and an hour and a half later he died. They cremated him and he is now home.
We are absolutely devastated. He was our baby and cannot believe he was off lead anywhere near a road let alone a major one.
Im heartbroken and the house is so empty. Even my two cats are wondering where he is.
People, please when you are putting your pets in the care of a professional make sure that they will definitely adhere to your wishes as I would hate anyone to go through what we have. He was in training for his recall which they also knew and I am just heartbroken at this sorry state of affairs.

Oh how awful - I feel so badly for you
:(
I hope you have made it very clear that they are to blame for this - I'm not talking suing or compo - just a clear message that they have caused this.ENFP - AssertiveOfficially in a clique of idiotsSmoke me a kipper; I'll be back for breakfast0 -
I cant speak to them yet. I cant even see them despite them living in the same village.
I think they are more than aware of what happened and the fact that it shouldnt have even been an option for him to run off.
Why on earth would you let a two year old pup off lead near any road?! Let alone one you are looking after. I am beginning to think he was always off lead.
I sincerely hope they reassess all of their practices.0 -
If, indeed, they are registered, they should be made to cease trading.
Nothing can make up for your sad loss, but I would prosecute for negligence, then donate the money to a rescue, in your boy's memory,so some good will come from his passing.0 -
I would honestly consider speaking to the council and dog warden about the sitters, if they are registered with them I would think there may be grounds to cancel this. They can't expect to just carry on asnormal after letting something like this happen. Teddysmum's idea isn't a bad one.
I'm heartbroken for you redlady, I can't imagine how devastated you must feel. Thinking of you x0 -
OMG! Redlady - that is absolutely horrifying! I am so sorry for the loss of your boy.
I cannot believe they would be so irresponsible as to let a dog off the lead near a main road. and surely you left them details of the dogs own vet? They sound like total and complete nincompoops!
I do hope they have insurance - because I hope you take this further. not for monetary gain, I hastily say, but to prevent another dog owner from using these people in good faith as you did.
Name and Shame hun if you can! then your poor boy wont have died in vain.
I just feel so sorry and angry on your behalf.0 -
If they take a dog in to their own home to look after for payment then they must be registered with the council and should have insurance cover.
I do think you should pursue this, in writing, as how would you feel if it happens to another dog and owner.
There is also the potential of liability for any damage to the motorbike or rider.0 -
Good god.I'm heartbroken for you:(
We have a nearly 2 year old Schnauzer who's pretty rubbish off the lead. I too, like you, would tell anyone who was looking after him, not to let him off and would expect them to adhere to this. They must be penalised for this, to stop this happening again.0 -
Really sorry, these people should be insured and registered. If a traffic accident happened would the police not have been involved? I think I would be asking for a report from the vet as well. Not easy to take this further though when you are all so upset.0

These people should be shot.
You should also be suing them through the small claims court for negligence to ensure that nobody else suffers like you have. My heart truly goes out to you.0 -
OMG that is absolutely horrific. Sincere condolences on your terrible loss
I agree with what other posters have said - they simply can't be allowed to get away with such negligence.
Obviously, it will take some time for you to be able to face it but I agree that you need to take this further with the relevant authorities.
Sending you big hugs x0
