bought ticket but failed to put on dashboard

bought a ticket at royston station, like an idiot I put on passenger seat face up and forgot to put on dashboard. didn't take a picture of it on passenger seat. received a parking ticket on grounds of "failure to display a valid ticket", seems unfair as I paid correct amount. has anyone succesfully appealed this one? - initial request to parking operator was turned down. now in popla appeal but worried as price will go up.

    Vinci until recently.
