Scotland first of all but interesting to know if its legal in England too or moral.
Its set so everytime someone walks up to the door from outside there is a loud beep almost the same as an fire alarm that sounds once, then once a minute later (maybe more but thats all I notice) it could be its beeping when someone comes to the door then when its closed.
Its quite annoying as can be in bed and get woken by it.
Wondered both the legality of it considering they only rent their flat and there is more than 1 landlord in the block and also in the politeness way, they never told anyone they were installing it and when asked they were like "so what"
I am not sure exactly what it is either, for all I know they may have CCTV or something that I can't see as to just beep when someone is approaching the door seems meaningless.

Legally, the flat owner would have to write to the freeholder to ask formal permission in writing - outside of the flat's front door nothing belongs to the flat owner, all that communal stuff belongs to the freeholder.
As the person's only renting, chances are that's not happened and they've either never thought it through/asked to know they can't just randomly do stuff .... or they're arrogant and thought "I want it - let others complain if they wish, but by the time they've complained and it's been withheld I still get to keep it .... so, on balance, I figure I should get away with it. Anyway, surely it's in my Uman Rights!"0 -
I would go to the front door, and inspect it. If there's no camera, it will dissapear. If there is a camera, I would knock and ask for the noise to be turned off. If they refuse, take it down non destructively and hand it back to them.
Its mad anyway, surely it should beep inside not outside?0 -
Who is the factor? What is his view on the matter?0

Can you get at this to just pull the relevant wire out or something?
After all - if he can act unilaterally - then so can you....:cool:0 -
What's it for? I can se the sense of a motion sensitive light, provided it is sited so that it doesn't disturb anyone, but waht's the point of something which beeps?
I would have thought that he would need the landlord's permission if it is in a common area. if it sounds in the tenant's flat but is audible in yours then treat it like any other noise issue and speak to the tenant about reduicing the noise so it is not audible outside their own home. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -

Unlikely to be a freeholder in Scotland.0 -
Can the beep be turned off just so that the light comes on? I can see a benefit of having an outdoor light coming on if you're trying to get in when it's dark but the beep seems unnecessary. Maybe talk to your neighbour and ask him/her.0

Is the neighbour a criminal?
I can't imagine who else would need an audible warning that someone's approaching the building.0 -
Just rip it down. End of story!0
