how do pension contributions effect tax credits

Hi all,
My husband has been paying into a pension for the last year. It's the one where his employer automatically takes money from his pay and they also contribute some money.
He's not had a p60 yet but I don't know whether the amount he has paid in will need to be declared to tax credits and if it'll make a difference to out reward?
His gross pay til end of march was around £22,780 and he paid around £700 into his pension. I don't know how much him employer paid in.
Thanks for reading

If it's taken before tax then it will already be accounted for on his P60 so he simply reports that figure.
If it's taken after tax then he needs to deduct how much he paid into the pension from the P60 figure.
What the employer pays into the pension isn't relevant.0 -

Good luck getting your entitlement if you have contributed to a private pension, I am still waiting for payments for the financial year 2014/15. They keep mixing up mine and my partners income and now say I haven't sent things even though previous letters from them mention my letters. Now going to appeal which they say will take at least 6 months.0
