Best Credit Card for a Newbie?

I am thinking of a Credit Card to make payments and have the protection when paying for things abroad (whilst in the UK) over the internet...
Also I need something to have money paid back onto?
Would this be linked to my bank account?
I have a Santander account, but realise that you can have independent CC and link it for payments out and any monies received back in?
I do apologise as I am completely new to Credit cards as I've only used Debit Cards, but they don't have the Section 75 protection associated with them (well Santander's dont)
So asking here is my first port of call, in the world of Credit Cards

See http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/travel-credit-cards for info on cards suited for use abroad (which will charge less for non-sterling transactions from the UK too).
It's the exception rather than the rule for a credit card to be linked with a bank account but it's often recommended to start with a credit card from your current bank account provider if you don't have much history to build from, see http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/build-credit-history and http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/credit-rating-credit-score
Not quite sure what you're getting at on the subject of money being paid back, but any transaction that needs to be refunded, for example, would typically be back onto the card used for payment in the first place, as with your current debit card.
Section 75 may apply to some or all of your CC transactions (see http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/section75-protect-your-purchases for eligibility info) but the card schemes also offer chargeback (http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/visa-mastercard-chargeback) as an alternative for debit card purchases and credit card ones that don't fit the s75 criteria.0
