Homebase Order

Homebase have taken the money for an item I bought several days ago. I've just received an email to say they're refunding me as the item isn't in stock.

Shouldn't they debit me only when dispatched?

Some do, some don't. At the end of the day they can't supply what they haven't got so have put you back in the position before the contract was made.

Apart from the fact they can have my money for up to 14 days.

I think he meant what was the cost of someone holding your money for up to 14 days?

Nothing apart from the fact that it isn't available for me to spend.

Homebase's T&Cs do state that they take the money when the order is placed.

You agreed to that happening when you placed the order.

However, the full sentence in their T&Cs is:
4.1 We take payment from your card at the time we receive your order, once we have checked your card details and stock availability.
Perhaps you should ask them why their stock availability check failed.

Can, not necessarily will. In reality you'll probably have your refund in a day or two.

    I'll do that - thanks.

Taking into account we are talking of a possible 5p in lost interest (assuming3% and total interest earned does not incur tax), i have to ask at just how little do you value your time to waste it on this?

I know there is the old 'it's the principle' argument, but there are some fights that are a waste of valuable time
