Small Business - Sole Trader - Card Payments

I run a small business and am registered as a sole trader.
I have recently been looking into taking card payments and have researched World Pay, izettle, sumup, Paypal here and one or two others.
My intention is to take deposits and payments from my clients either in person or over the phone and portably. I'd like to have no monthly outlay other than the % per transaction, the fee to be paid quickly and to be able to take visa, MasterCard etc.
I have found reviews on the above mentioned companies however they all seem to be from previous years rather than current reviews.
Can anyone recommend either of the companies and offer their own recent experiences?
Many Thanks,

I use world pay zinc.
I have used it for about 3 years.
It is easy to set up and easy to use. There is no monthly fee and I pay 2.75% per transaction. I did a payment last Tuesday and it was in my account on last Friday - so three days.
I would be happy to recommend them.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
Many Thanks Phill99,
Can you take payments from a Visa Card easily enough? I found reviews saying that is issued a link to the payee and asked them to insert their card details rather than chip and pin.
Also do you need a business bank account to get World Pay Zinc?
Thanks0 -
Yep, Visa and MasterCard and their debit/stored value brethren, not Diners, Amex. Chip and pin only, no swipe. Cardholder not present transactions (eg over the phone) via web interfaces, different between providers.
I've been impressed with the customer service with worldpay zinc. If you choose to go with them, there's a thread in the referrers party of the site which might reduce handset price.
No, you don't necessarily have to have business bank account, but call them up and ask/check, they're very helpful!0 -
Thanks very much Paddyrg.
I will contact them to find out re the bank account.0 -
I had a terrible experience with worldpay zinc , do NOT , I repeat NOT be tempted to take payments over the phone (customer not present)
They advertise it to sucker you in as none of the other companies offer the service , but what they don't tell you is they hate you doing it as they are liable for any fraudulent transactions for 90 days , so as in my case they tried sitting on a payment of £600 for 3 month's , oh and they closed my account without notifying me .......0 -
I have a couple of friends who use izettle. They receive the money into the bank quickly, within a day or two. They're happy with the service, and with the rates they pay. They don't take payments over the phone though, as they have franchises with a slimming club, and people pay when they go to get weighed.0

To be hones izettle was going to be my first choice, maybe I should have hung off a bit.0 -

You should by rights have a cooling off period , my advice would be use it , I ended up paying for the chip and pin machine and never actually got to use it , they were awful to deal with , so ignorant .0 -
Oh of course. I never thought of that.
If I'm approved I will read through all the bumf.
Last thing I want is for my money to be held up unnecessarily for any reason.0
