Holy Land?

Just wondering if any MSE'ers have made an 'independant' trip to the Holy Land. Would like to do all the Christian sightseeing etc, but want to see if I can managed to do this myself rather than going through an organised tour etc. Anyone done this - any recommendations/pitfalls etc...
