Can't drain washing machine

Overnight my washing machine drum completely filled with water, so much so that it started leaking through the door seal.

I've currently got the waste pipe disconnected from the plumbing and have it laying on the floor, dripping slowly into a tray (the only thing shallow enough to maintain any flow).

But why is it only dripping? The drum is still 50% full (50% empty - yay!) and it's going to take forever to empty it, unless I open the door, but with wooden flooring and an underfloor electric heat mat, I don't really want to have to do that.

There's also a filter I can remove to drain the water, but that is so low to the floor that I can't even get the tray under it sufficiently to catch the water, and I don't have the headroom to raise the washing machine.

Anyone able to advise on a speedy solution?

Thanks.

Could you not pull it out and then lean it back 45 degrees then open the filter to drain the water?

This is most probably the problem, something in the filter stopping the pump rotating, hairclip, 20p paperclip etc

    Is your washing machine on?

You need to keep that pipe where it is and put the machine back on a spin and drain cycle. It wont kick the pump in by itself just because its full of water. If it drains out ok you have a blockage in your pipework, if not there is something blocking the pump inside the machine- The filter needs taking out. Just fold up a towel and slide it under the machine

    Thanks both for your replies.

I wasn't comfortable with trying to tip the machine, as initial attempts indicated it would take some significant effort to move it, but realising I didn't have much choice I started wedging the tray under the machine to catch the release from the filter. This was a royal PITA, and I was spilling water left, right and centre, but I've eventually drained it.

I'd tried getting it to run a spin cycle to drain automatically, but there's also a slight issue since I had to remove the door a few months back in that the machine will say the door's not shut properly and sometimes and won't run. Normally a shove in the right spot gets it going, but this time it wasn't responding.

Anyway, the machine is now empty... but it's refilling. I'm still running tests to try and determine whether it's the fill valve or an electronic fault causing it. Are either of these user fixable if so?

It's an integrated washer/dryer, so not particularly cheap to replace (c.350-400 for the cheapest).

If its refilling then the inlet solenoid/valve is letting in water.

Test that should be quick when machine is on trying to fill nothing when not.
