Can anyone explain BT Germany Ca;ll Charge increase

Hi

Can anyone help me understand why as of April 2015 my calls to Germany on my landline (BT) went up 400%. I have not changed my package or any details of my BT account. BT say it is due to international tariffs and say they are sorry. That doesn't really explain it.

Would appreciate some guidance

    I dont know the answer but if your calling Germany regularly on a BT Landline you must have money to throw away. Have you not thought about using a cheaper supplier for the calls.

    Hi;

    Good idea. I have used this before. Then I changed as there was not much difference. I can only assume that something about our package changed; what I cannot understand is why 17p/min to 61p/minute overnight.

    How do you get through to BT; I can only get a call centre in India and frankly given the background noise and accents its hard to understand what they are saying!

  • Could the number you were calling in Germany have changed to a mobile?
  • Search for a service called My0870 which will let you route an 0870 number to the number you call in Germany. Check that 0870 calls are included in your BT calling package and now you're calling Germany for free.

    I use VOIP from Sipgate for more than 15 years now. Calls to Germany are 1.4p/min to a landline. If your friends in Germany would sign up at Sipgate DE then the call to this number would be free.

    For calls to a German mobile I use my Giffgaff SIM which cost 5p/min.

    It would pay you to investigate alternatives to BT.

    Just out of interest I checked to see how much it would cost using my mobile which is on the 3 network.

    Using their prefix code it is 3p per minute to a landline in Germany and 12p to a mobile. No additional charges such as connection fees. These are payg rates, not contract.

    This is just a quick example but it just shows what savings can be made. I suggest you start doing some research asap.
