Also some Victorian houses were built with cavity walls. Known as 'finger cavities' they were very narrow and are not suitable for cavity insulation.
I was amazed to find my 1887 house has a ground floor cavity wall, as you say, its only about 30-50mm wide but more than I expected when I started working on it.0
