Magnet kitchen guarantee issues

Options
We bought a kitchen from Magnet 7.5 years ago. The kitchen is in our house in London but we currently live overseas. The reason I mention that is that I wasn't able to locate the receipt for the kitchen in the papers we brought with us when we relocated.

Nevertheless, I contacted Magnet anyway thinking they'd have some record. They did not. They said they had changed systems and didn't have records that went back that far. I contacted the credit card company to see if I could get a copy of the statement for the month we bought the kitchen. Unfortunately we'd passed the 7 year mark and they didn't have records going back further than 7 years.

Without any proof Magnet won't do anything. Are we just out of luck here, or is there anything else we can try?

What is the problem with the kitchen ,almost all guarantees will exclude the problem after 7.5 years and will be put down to wear and tear

Hi JCB. The paint has peeled off the cabinets in several places. There are around 10 patches of around 20 cms x 2 cm is size. Definitely looks like a paint defect rather than wear and tear. Magnet have a 15 year guarantee on their cabinets. The problem I have is that I have no way of proving we bought it from them.

I can only give you my gut reaction to this because I do not have the guarantee paperwork.

Think it through - a new car might get a three year paint warranty but that has exclusions like birds pooh damage. A new house has a two year paint guarantee but it would not be easy to claim on this - the builders are likely to be evasive.

Moving onto your kitchen, Magnet are OK but far from a top end, quality brand name. Consequently I would expect Magnet to say "wear and tear", or "abrasive cleaners have been used", or "UV sunlight damage", or "Steam from the sink, or the washing machine or the dishwasher", or anything else that comes to mind.

I cannot see there being a valid, watertight, 15 year guarantee that you can claim on. The carcass may be covered, but this will be for fixings and strength, not for the applied finish.
