Samsung 40" Flat panel TV pixels blown

We have the above 3D TV, which will be 3 years old in August this year.

Yesterday a line of pixels disappeared completely across the screen, drawing attention when trying to view TV.

Is this type of problem something you might expect from a TV of this age, and does anyone have any approximate ideas of repair costs?

We have not taken out an extended warranty for this TV.

Thank you

It might sound stupid, but try gently tapping the screen and the tv frame where the line starts and finishes.

This sort of fault can often be due to a bad contact and a simple tap may well reseat the screen against the ribbon cable or

If it's a whole line across the screen then I tend to think it's a issue with the wiring connecting the led's to the mainboard.

With some screen makers they glue/tape the flat ribbon signal wires to the connector's instead of soldering them on. (glue is cheaper and you are less likely to heat damage the LED's). The glue can weaken over time and you can loose connection.

It's technically possible to repair (people with issues like this have reported success in getting it repaired).

Contact Samsung see what they say, They might quote a cost to repair if it is just connection issue. But if the led's are totally blown then it's probably time to replace the TV.

Thank you very much for replying.

We will try tapping the screen, as suggested by shaun, and possibly contact Samsung about the problem. Thank you S0litaire

The TV cost about £800 and we expected it to last more than 3 years!

Exactly the reason I always try to buy from John Lewis with their five year guarantee pn TV's.

That sounds reasonable, and that's what SOGA states should happen. If it was a no brand TV at £300, you'd have less of a case. You shouldn't be talking to Samsung, the manufacturer, you should be talking to whoever you bought the TV from.

The TV was bought from Curry's. You would expect an expensive TV to last longer than it has done, but didn't think we would be successful trying to claim free repair.

Why ever not unless you have damaged it .
The vendor is liable subject to the Sale Of Goods Act . Samsung have no liability except under any extra warranty they offer .
Currys are probably going to say we need an independent engineers report .If no fix then refund less a significant portion deducted for three years use .
As said John Lewis or Richer Sounds for tv warranty .

The TV is fixed on the wall and definitely hasn't been damaged in any way.

I purchased my laptop from John Lewis and they give a good guarantee. Unfortunately their nearest store is at Liverpool One - approximately 30 miles away. Quite a distance if you need to call back.

We will call in at Currys and see what they say. Not very optimistic though.
