Getting a Credit rating after living away

Hi, we have been living in Canada for over thirty years but have now repatriated. We have a fantastic credit rating in Canada but with being away so long do not have one here. We are mortgage free and pay our bill by direct debit. We'd like to take advantage of interest free offers on carpets etc. but can't get accepted. Does anyone know if our rating from Canada can be transferred or any tips on getting accepted for such deals?

Not that I know of, although happy to be corrected....or any tips on getting accepted for such deals?
Time (1yr+), patience and good management of 'lesser' (higher interest) forms of credit, like 'credit builder' credit cards...some names include Aqua and Vanquis, and Barclaycard and Capital One both do a starter card of their own, alongside their prime range.
Getting onto the electoral roll (regardless of whether you intend to vote).
Sticking around at one address for the next couple of years, if practical for you to do so.
Managing your bank account well (maintaining a credit balance, etc.).
Not going out and applying for all sorts, because rejection breeds further rejection, when lenders can see you've been applying like mad.
Good luck

Time along with good conduct of your financial affairs will build a record. There's no short cuts available.0

Hi Mickjj,
The other posters on here are correct that it will take time for you to build a UK credit history. Credit files can't be transferred internationally so unfortunately, your Canadian credit history won't help you in the UK. Because you have been away for so long you will have no history here at all which means future lenders can't assess whether you are a risk or not - this is likely to be the problem at the moment. Good luck,
Laura
