Garmin Sat Nav update
My Suzuki has started to remind me that the Sat Nav needs an update - to see whether it is worth doing, I emailed Garmin for a quote and was told that a quote was not possible, even though I told them the exact model and update status - Evidently, I need to download the whole file from my sat nav and run it through their website to find out the cost.
I am concerned that once "run through their website" - it will be too late to refuse the update and I will have to pay WHATEVER they charge
Could someone please advise cost and normal procedure ?

This site seems to suggest it's either free, £49.99 or £74.99 for lifetime maps:
http://www.garmin.com/uk/maps/numaps
So seems unlikely you'd be charged more than £49.99; probably not worth it if the previous maps are fairly recent. Roads don't change that often in times of austerity. On my portable, they are the original maps that came with it about 8 years ago.0 -

I want to avoid getting it updated by Suzuki - they will add their cut
I know the updating procedure, but am looking for someone who has done it themselves to confirm whether it can be recovered once uploaded - should the price be a silly amount !!0 -
You can find out what updates are available for your specific device here:

I very much doubt you will have any option than going through the official suzuki.garmin options. I would never buy a car with an installed sat nav as it has been known for years that it is just another way of fleecing the customer.0

Mine was updated without being asked or charged at the first service. I can download and update myself at no charge. I think this is true of anyone with a VW, Seat or Audi.
I don't believe this Sat Nav is as good as my previous standalone Tom Tom but I think your last sentence is not universally applicable.0 -

You have to pay before the website will allow the download to start. Thanks - My device is an in dash unit - which, according to the first reply from Garmin - should be "plugged in to their website" - I reiterated that it was not an extractable unit - which resulted in zero response !!

If you did actually understand how the update procedure works, you already would know that there is nothing to recover!
You are simply uploading "a unique ID code" from your unit onto the SD card and then on to their website.
You will see exactly how much the update will cost you before you pay, and paying is necessary to enable the download.
So how much does the annual Suzuki Sat Nav update for your car cost?0 -

I have absolutely no idea as to what it will cost me - my car is due for a service at Suzuki main dealers in a couple of months - I thought that I would leave it to then - and see what they want to charge me, before deciding whether to do it myself or at all ...0 -

You can easily find out and it makes sense to know what Garmin would charge you for the download before taking it to your Suzuki dealers.
You only have to put the upgrade into your basket to find the price. I would guess that many owners stop at that point without paying when they find that it will cost them £200+ for the update download.0
