Buying Tesco Gift Card with American Express Credit Card

Hi, I'm trying to find out if buying a Tesco gift card with my American Express would be considered a cash Advance.

I have a Cashback promotion that runs out shortly, and wanted to make full use of the amount included in the bonus cashback, but don't need anything major just yet.

So I was thinking to just plonk the money on a gift card. But don't want to be hit with Cash Advance Charges.
Nice to save.

I am pretty sure it normally has to be a purchase, not a cash advance, but some problems aren't unheard of: Debenham eGift card charged as cash advance?
  • hi there

it's absolutely fine, i have done this myself on my credit cards quite a few times and it is not charged as cash advance on amex platinum cashback card or even gold card.

one thing i would suggest is rather than buying the gift card from tesco direct buy it from ebay or a phone app called ZEEK as you can get it more cheaper than tesco direct, or if you go to hotukdeals.com and then go to sale/trade section, you can find a good deal there too.

Additionally, buying non-Tesco gift cards in Tesco gets you 150 Clubcard points for each £50 spent.

Buy gift cards in Morrisons and get a 1p per litre off fuel voucher for every £10 you spend on gift cards.

    Thanks everyone.

When I eventually found a store that had the gift cards it was plain sailing. Except that the limit on a card is £100. So I had to get 3 cards for £250.

And it's shown as a normal transaction on my Amex.
    Nice to save.
