Anyone know the difference between an International Driving PERMIT and an International Driving LICENCE apart from a huge difference in price? We are planning on hiring a car in Thailand and they advise having one.

International Driving Permit is what you need. It's a document which you carry with your licence, which is recognised around the world in countries where the UK licence on it's own is not valid. They're available from the AA or the RAC.0

There is no such thing as an International Driving Licence - there is only a permit.
The' licences' issued are scams by non-authorised bodies who have only half read the international treaty that set up IDPs.0
