Average spend on extras when buying new build

Hi all,

Partner and I are hopefully going to buy a new build in a years time and we're just planning how much we're going to need now and I'm just wondering how much people have spent on extras and what they've got with that amount?

Thanks :)

I can't imagine anecdotes would be if any use to you whatsoever, way too wide a span of options and house prices and areas and builders, it could be anywhere from twenty quid for extra socket to 20k for high end kitchen and bathroom.

    My advice would be
(1), get extra sockets installed, there are never enough and the cost of getting one installed to start with, even if a complete ripoff, is immaterial compared to the hassle and cost of doing it later.
    (2) get an outside tap installed with an inside shutoff for winter. (Unless you are buying a flat :D )
    (3) almost all extras you add will cost far more than their apparent price due to being added to the mortgage and never getting you back anywhere near what you paid, when you resell. Probably in fact you won't get anything back. That extra £10k on a kitchen after five years when you come to sell, won't likely be apparent. So be thoughtful about them.

Just exchanged on a New Build..the (local) company we went with did not offer any upgrades 99pc included only thing missing is full tiling and shower over bath but we will get in touch local companies they have used regarding that..I am also not sure that outside tap included. I understand nationally Bovis homes also operate like this.

Make sure that the kitchen is plumbed for a dishwasher.

Yep definitely is ! However I have a 'manual' dishwasher ...the husband! :rotfl: didn't want to waste the kitchen space and we have lasted this long without having to replace him.....:)

We have bought 2 new build houses in the past and never took any extras - they were things like carpets/tiling on floors and dishwasher/double oven. These are all things we done ourselves much cheaper than their prices.

Always had plenty sockets as standard in the houses we had.
