Lowell playing games

I had a mobile phone contract in late 2008 that it was agreed(still have copy of call) to leave early due to changes in contract in early 2009.
In 2013 I was contacted about the debt from Lowell who claimed I needed to prove I did not owe money instead of them proving I do.
After getting nowhere I got a printout which just said dates and amounts paid, i.e £35 a month contract (and few calls over now and again)
Then at end it mentioned length of contract and nothing about it being finished early so it added on the "leftover time" then added about £200 in "fees"
I tried speaking one last time and then ignored them.
I did check my credit file a few times and nothing was showing, checked it last month to find it under closed accounts but with a balance showing but since it was around April 2009 I cancelled then it should of been off my file April 2015.
Then I recieved a letter from Lowell demanding full amount, I contracted them and they claimed I "admitted" the debt in 2013 because I told them I had the account but that it was closed.
So they are claiming they now have till 2019 to chase it!
How do I deal with this dodgy company!

Not unless unless you wrote to them acknowledging in writing that the account was yours AND that you owe the money on it that they claim.
If you just wrote or called disputing the money was owed, then they are telling you fibs about the 6 years being restarted in 2013.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Hi
As fermi suggests, the debt may be statute barred and unenforceable in court providing you didn't acknowledge liability in writing, even if you did owe it.
You can send them the sample letter on this Time Limits factsheet to inform them they're out of time to recover the debt:
www.nationaldebtline.org/EW/factsheets/Pages/25%20EW%20Time%20limits%20for%20recovering%20debts/Default.aspx#quicklink1
There is also a sample letter here you can use to dispute liability for a debt, to send to debt collectors:
www.nationaldebtline.org/EW/sampleletters/Pages/Complaining-to-debt-collection-agencies-that-you-do-not-owe-the-debt-%28sole-name%29.aspx
You can complain to the Financial Ombudsman Service if they continue to pursue you for payments without proving that it isn't statute barred and that you do owe it.

Hi cjcooper
You're not obliged to comply with Lowell's random requests for information, especially when they're not disclosing what it's about.
