Hey there, just a query i about a possible way to avoid the exchanging money to Euro and back.
Which just involves opening a bank account in somewhere in Europe, and depositing the left over Euro from a holiday into there. Are there banks that are used internationally across Europe? and could 'anyone' open an account with them?

I think citibank have a Euro account.
My ex-employer Cater Allen Private Bank also did an account that you could hold funds in £, $ and Euro at the same time - requires you to be well off thought and account fees are payable monthly.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep

Abbey International do a Euro account, but there's a minimum opening deposit of €7500!
I think this would be a lot of hassle for a very small reward. When I get back I just keep my spare Euros, ready for the next time I go away.0 -
Citibank do run a € acct.
HSBC have branches across the world. I don't know if you can freely use cash machines in a coutry other than the one you opened the account in. Most banks want you to have a local address unless you're a squillionaire.0 -
Just get a Nationwide debit card - change just what you need at no cost & at a better rate than most exchange places. Why make life difficult?0

Aside from not having much money to change back (aren't ATMs wonderful) the simplest thing to do is find a friend who is going to Euroland and sell them the Euros0

HSBC (and probably all the others) in France charge fees.0
