I didn't use any express service just stuck them in the envelope provided, they received an acknowledgement on the Saturday and both the renewed passportson the Tuesday. Excellent service. That's what I found last year. Very quick.

I got an Irish passport delivered on Saturday it took 3 weeks

I got a British child's 1st time passport delivered on the same day, it took 2 weeks

Use the check & send service to ensure you don't get the forms back with any errors

Thanks Milko she was told as long as no Issues 1 week and she used the check and send

check and send is a take on, do it online and pay there and then

Check and send is NOT a take on. You can't do it all online. You still need to print out and post documentation https://www.gov.uk/apply-renew-passport

I'm in the process of renewing my sons passport, did the online thing, put the wrong DOB on so filled in the wrong form. Dropped it into the passport office and got a phone call from a helpful passport office bloke in belfast who noticed and sent me out the proper form which only partially needed to be filled in. Even included an addressed sticker so that it went directly back to him to deal. Took another form as he missed a section but he reckoned it should only take a few days after that to receive the passport.
Well played by the passport people, not the faceless beaurocrats I expected!
