New Laptop Guidance/Suggestions required!

Afternoon All,

So, my HP Pavillion Laptop (in a fetching red colour) is on it's last legs after a good 5 years of constant use - i'm a teacher so it gets a good workout, literally everyday plus online banking/shopping etc.

Now, due to a change in my role at work, I have use of a MacBook Air - which is almost brand new and excellent for school related purposes. However, I don't like to do personal stuff such as banking/online shopping on it so i'm looking to replace my HP laptop, at home.

Realistically, I might also do some school work on my home laptop, but otherwise browsing/online shopping & banking are all really. Should I go for a similar laptop to what I have now, or would I benefit from getting a thinner "ideapad" or "Satellite" one? I am fairly useless when it comes to understanding technology, but I don't want to spend more than necessary, without good reason.

Any suggestions/pointers would be welcomed,

How about an iPad? Buy a cheap Bluetooth keyboard and it'll tick all your boxes

Ahh I have considered iapds however as far as I know, they have no USB port - which I need potentially for work purposes. Also, sometimes, when I open attachments from emails they don't load properly - all wonky!

Are you going to carry your laptop around?
I dont see the point getting thin/ light laptop for extra in your case. It is up to you.

Since you are get rid of old laptop, i suggest you take out hdd from old laptop and buy caddy and use as external HDD.

I actually went and had a look at the chromebooks yesterday, and was impressed. I have a few questions though if you'd be able to clarify:

1. I can use USB hard drives/sticks for saving work?

2. Does the Google Docs work ok offline, if I was working on a doc from my USB device? [If I wasn't somewhere with Wifi, unlikely in this day and age but, possible]

3. Is the system easy to get used to, being Google rather than Windows?
