Often with these dongles (presumably with a mobile phone provider?), you're required to give 30 days notice that you wish to terminate the contract, even if you come to the natural end of what your original contract term was supposed to be.

The effect on your credit rating will dissipate over time, and will eventually become completely invisible (6 years after the recorded date of default, if you're not already aware). It looks bad now because you have a relatively recent default. It's not a personal slight on you, it's just a fact of 21st century life, where computers - and not human bank managers - make decisions.

Credit cards as a means of building and re-building credit aren't 'silly', by any means. They're a tried and tested tool. The trick is to pay all of your balance off every month, to avoid paying interest. There are few other ways to prove (or in your case, re-prove) that you can be trusted with credit. Again not personal, just factual :)
  • Thank you Kloana. Might just give myself a break from feeling such a pratt! Might also just take up the credit card advice. What card could I get? Thank you.

People seem to get very hard about other peoples' money problems.

Just honest not hard. Unfortunately many people intentionally do not pay their debts on time or at all. The cost is borne by those that do. With debt collection being an expensive business. Chalk it up to experience.

Sounds like a very frustrating situation.

I can't comment on other types of credit applications, however this default wouldn't necessarily stop you getting a mortgage approved so a least you've got a bit of good news! ;)

It does seem you'll need to chalk it up to experience though if your complaint has failed.
