My washing machine has forgotten how to spin!

Every few washes my AEG Lavamat 61300 seems to forget what it is supposed to do and doesn't spin. If I switch off and set it to spin again it remembers! Any ideas? We've checked the drain hose and waste pipe etc and doesn't seem to be a problem. I am loathe to call out an engineer and pay call out fee if someone out there knows that I'm wasting my time and money and that I will need a new machine very soon because of this problem - or mabe it could just be a cheap easy solution? Thanks.

Don't suppose it's small loads that you're doing is it?

When mine did this, I called out an engineer; he said the brushes had gone and weren't causing the friction needed to turn the drum. I ended up getting a new machine.
  • you can buy the brushes yourself about £30 and you can fit them yourself if you know where they are .Our washing machine brushes use to go and we found out where they were very easy to take out and replace

oh my god!!! 30 quid for brushes what kinda machine you got:eek:

brushes on a high capacity motor like a conveyor belt in a factory are only 10 quid a ste,,,,the last ones i replaced on my hotpoint...about a year ago were 9 quid bought from independant repairer...did you buy yours straight from manufacturer?

changing brushses is really easy to do first of all buy the correct brushes for the machine for a local indepentent repairer, unplug the machine, whip the back off and look for the small motor with the belt attached to it that drives the drum, the brusses normall have a conectoe on the top, just look at the new ones if unsure, replace these reasemble and try it out,as allways if your not confident call an electrician
