Ognum's post #7 sums up exactly what I thought when the OP claimed financial security, and I think the OP would do well to think long and had on what ognum has had to say in 3 excellent posts.

We bought a place in Spain 10 yrs ago. We love it !!

Ours was a new build, we bought it via an Estate Agent and they handled everything for us, mortgage, solicitors etc. Yes we have to pay electric, community charge, water and Suma ( council tax ) , but when we go we totally unwind so it's worth it. Luckily for us next door is an English couple who live there, they do the garden and check on the place.

Really if you want to but a property you will need to find an area that you really like and go and view properties.

If you want to buy, I think you should buy something closer to home.

You know the language, the laws, and so on.

I would not buy abroad. Not now anyway. A friend has just sold up three properties in France, Spain and Turkey, is so relieved, and said never again.

    Renting is so much easier.

Each to their own I suppose.
