Credit Limit shifting?

Hi

I have four or five credit cards and have mostly got them because of the rewards points. Unfortunately, with the new rules about unfair charges coming in, most of them are cutting back on their reward programme. One still has it for now and I would like to solely use this card but the provider are very strict on credit limit increases. I wonder if reducing my credit limit on some of my other cards or cancelling them altogether will help with the one I want to increase it for?

To illustrate what I mean (I'll make up figures):
A - Card A still has rewards programme and is £1,000 credit limit. I would like to increase this and preferably substantially.
B - Card B has reduced the rewards programme and has a £2,000 limit so I might ask them to cut the limit to £1,000.
C - Card C has a rubbish rewards programme elsewhere but a good one in the relevant supermarket. It has a £3,000 limit and I might ask them to cut this to £1,000.
D - Card D had a good programme but has cut it to nothing with no other obvious benefits so I thought I might cancel this card altogether - reduction = £1,000.

So my question is - would the total £4,000 reduction in credit limit across cards B; C and D help me in any way towards getting a large increase to Card A or would this exercise be a complete waste of time?

Thanks in advance.

No I don't believe reducing the credit limits will help. The best way to proceed is to use the card you want to use as much as possible, pay in full each month and ensure that the conduct of the account is perfect.

It might help in some way - your total available credit is likely to be one of many factors in provider A's assessment of what they'd be prepared to lend you but I doubt it would be a major influence.
