Ipad pass code

I was asked to do software updated for my ipad and on switching it back on it is asking for pass code ,I don't have a clue what this might be hasn't happened before with updates, Had the ipad about 3years.Any help appreciated.

It will ask for 2 things, your PIN that you normally use to unlock your iPad and your iTunes/Apple ID password.
If you never set a PIN then it will just ask for your iTunes password.
If you haven't used iTunes for a long time & have forgotten the pw, try a reset:
