Australia - should we go in March or April?

Hello Looking to do a 3 week trip to Australia next year taking in Sydney, Melbourne & Alice Springs hence thinking (and saving!) for it now.
We can both get 3 weeks off around March/April which I know is Autumn and should still be good weather but wondered if anyone could offer advice on whether we're best going as early as possible ie early March or would April still be a good time of year as regards climate/flights as my husband's Birthday early April so this would be either start or end of our trip.
Thanks

If you could do Melbourne at the start of the trip you'd get the better weather before it really cools. Depends if Mardi Gras in Sydney is a priority or not.
Flights might be cheaper if you return before the start of the school Easter holidays.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
I've just come back from three weeks in Australia, and I think that April is a perfect time to go. Granted, I was based in Brisbane, and Queensland is hotter than NSW, but I watched the weather forecasts every day on TV while I was there, and the weather in Sydney, Melbourne etc was pretty good with the odd shower now and then. The temperature in Brisbane never fell below 28 degrees in the day, and it felt too hot at times! I don't think I could cope in their summer.0
